Framework for nurse practitioner role to specialise in ARF and RHD developed
Following the RHD Australia National Conference earlier this year, RHD Australia and a multidisciplinary working group have developed a framework for a nurse practitioner role to specialise in acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD).
Nurse practitioner roles were introduced in Australia in 2000 to improve access to healthcare services. Anecdotal evidence from preliminary consultations with key stakeholders in the Northern Territory and nationally has identified key areas where a nurse practitioner could address, incorporate into the scope of practice, adding value to the service delivery of RHD control programs.
