On Saturday the NCD Alliance – of which the World Heart Federation is a founding member – delivered a statement on the recently updated Appendix 3. An annex to the Global Action Plan on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), Appendix 3 is a list of NCD interventions and policies which WHO has defined as cost-effective.

In the updated draft of Appendix 3 – which will be submitted for approval by the World Health Assembly in May – both primary and secondary prevention of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease have been recommended as cost-effective interventions that endemic countries should prioritize in their national health planning on NCDs.
