The Telethon Kids Institute in Perth, Western Australia are currently seeking candidates for a number of roles within their Group A Streptococcus research team. Both of these roles will work across a range of research projects that feed into the END RHD CRE with a focus on rheumatic heart disease control in the Australian context. The aim of the NHMRC-funded Centre of Research Excellence in rheumatic heart disease is to develop targets for rheumatic heart disease control in Australia and a costed, stepwise strategy for achieving them. For an overview of the END RHD CRE the prospectus is available to view here. 

The roles are as follows:

Epidemiological Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The role will work across a range of projects that feed into the CRE. The first project will involve studies of the burden of RHD in Australia, utilising the rich sources of routinely collected data from hospital, death, RHD register and notification sources, enhanced through the data linkage capacity now developed in Australian jurisdictions. This project requires expertise in the analysis of linked data, including manipulation of large datasets and appropriate epidemiological and statistical methods. The role will also involve a number of other projects across the GAS program currently being developed, including RHD screening in at-risk populations, housing as a determinant of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and understanding of RHD burden and service delivery in the primary care context.

Assistant Research Coordinator (END RHD CRE)

The role will support a range of projects that feed into the epidemiology and bioscience theme of the CRE. This will include undertaking of literature searches, research support (including consultation with stakeholders; logistical planning) for the development of study protocols, preparation of documents/web-based tools for grant applications and ethics applications, database management and the analysis of data under the supervision of  project leads.

Research Project Officer

This role is responsible for working under the direction of the clinical research fellow to coordinate a broad range of research projects in the field of skin and hospital infections. This role provides an opportunity to support the logistic and administrative aspects of the fellow’s work to ensure that the team continues to achieve high impact, clinically relevant excellence in research. Areas of focus will include research grant administration, clinical research ethics and governance, research translation, community engagement and programme efficiency and sustainability.
