Rheumatic fever is a serious illness. It often starts with a sore throat.  Without treatment, some sore throats can cause rheumatic fever which can lead to heart damage. If your child has had rheumatic fever, the best way to stop them having another attack is to make sure they have regular penicillin injections - on time. This video was produced by Kids Health, a joint initiative between the Paediatric Society of New Zealand and Starship Foundation, supported and funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Health.
