This test uses sound waves to make a moving picture of the heart called an echocardiogram, also known as a cardiac ultrasound or sonogram.

This test, also known as an ECG or EKG, records the movement of electrical charges across the heart using a machine known as an electrocardiograph.  The changes in electrical activity over time are recorded on a piece of paper. This produces an undulating line, or tracing, which may be used to diagnose various heart defects or abnormalities.

Oxygen Saturation Measurement

A machine known as an oximeter is used to estimate how much oxygen is in a child's arterial blood by measuring the proportion of oxygenated hemoglobin in the blood. This may be done by placing a probe that squeezes around a small, thin body part (usually a finger tip) and uses light to make the measurement.
