On behalf of the RHD Action partners we are delighted to present a report of the work of the last 6 years. We think you will agree that a lot has been achieved by the entire RHD community in that time and we are proud to have made a contribution. In the report you will find an overview of the activities undertaken by RHD Action, some highlights from our global, regional and National activities, insight into the experiences of people living with RHD and Front Line Health Workers and our recommendations for how to build on this work and help improve the lives of the most vulnerable in every part of the world. Thank you for your support and continued efforts to end RHD.

Ruby is a wife and mother of three from the Western Cape Province in South Africa. She was diagnosed with acute rheumatic fever (ARF) at 16 years of age.

The guidelines have been based on international best practice guidelines for ARF/ RHD including: the Jones criteria update 2015, The New Zealand Guidelines for Rheumatic Fever 2014, The Australian Guidelines for Prevention, Diagnosis and Management of Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease 2012, the Fiji Cardiovascular Guidelines 2015, the Fiji Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinical Practice Guidelines 2015, the Fiji National RHD Policy 2015, the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services National Strategic Plan 2016-20, the World Heart Federation Diagnosis and Management of Acute Rheumatic Fever Rheumatic Heart Disease 2008 and the WHO Expert Consultation Technical Report: Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease 2003. The purpose of these guidelines is to:
- identify the evidence for best practice in ARF and RHD diagnosis, - identify the standard of care that should be available for people in Fiji; and - provide an evidence based protocol for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of ARF and RHD in Fiji.
Zafirah has striking dark features and a maturity beyond her young age of 20 years. She lives in the island nation of Fiji in the third largest city of Nadi. Nadi, on the island of Viti Levu, is a multicultural town with beautiful beaches that attract tourists from all over the world.
Livini is a young woman in her mid- twenties with a shy smile, that quickly warms into an openness to share and engage others with her personal story about living with rheumatic heart disease and her journey through diagnosis, sickness and health, pregnancy and life.
